J.R. Smith tweets that he'll be joining Lin, Knicks

Free agent shooting guard J.R. Smith indicated Friday morning on Twitter that he would be joining Jeremy Lin and the New York Knicks.

"New York Knicks It Is!" @TheRealJRSmith tweeted.
Smith, who played for the Denver Nuggets last season, decided to play in China during the lockout and did not have an opt-out clause in his contract, preventing him from joining the NBA until his Chinese team's season ended.
Smith will give the Knicks another scoring threat, and one off the bench, which they sorely need.
An inconsistent shooter, Smith averaged 12.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.2 steals in 24.9 minutes off the bench for Denver last season. He shot 43.5% from the field, including 39% on three-pointers.
Smith's addition, if he can fit in with New York's offensive style, comes at a perfect time for the 15-15 Knicks, who are playing their best basketball of the season with second-year sensation Lin in the starting lineup at point guard. Since Lin started playing significant minutes, the Knicks are 7-0, including 6-0 when Lin starts.
All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony, who has missed the last five-plus games with a strained right groin, is doubtful for tonight's game against the New Orleans Hornets.
It is possible he'll be on the court Sunday against the Dallas Mavericks (1 p.m. ET, ABC).
Forward Amar'e Stoudemire missed four games because of his brother's death in a car accident and return to the lineup Tuesday against the Toronto Raptors. He had 21 points and nine rebounds in the Knicks' 90-87 victory, a game in which Lin made the winning shot with 0.5 seconds left.
Stoudemire had 11 points and five rebounds in Wednesday's easy 100-85 victory against the Sacramento Kings.
